Preliminaries to understand the concept of logos in Origen’s Commentary on John.
Abstract
This paper deals with some essential considerations to understand the concept of ?ó???, present in Origen’s Commentary on John. These considerations begin with a brief approximation to the philosophical environment in which the Commentary is inserted, leading us to try to answer the question of how far gospels are a source for Origen’s thought. Next, an etymological approximation to the term ?ó??? will be made to describe its richness and, then, its use will be shown in both the Bible and some representatives of the Alexandrian Patristic tradition previous to Origen. Finally, we will briefly stop in Philo who, although being previous to Patristic authors, has a key influence on Origenian thought.
